Laila Peak, with its iconic needle-shaped summit, is one of the most striking mountains in the Karakoram. Standing at 6,096m in the Hushe Valley of Baltistan, the peak is known for its sharp aesthetic and technical climbing challenges. Although not among the highest peaks, Laila demands skill on steep snow and ice, making it ideal for experienced alpinists looking for a shorter but rewarding climb. The expedition also includes a scenic trek through the Hushe Valley, with views of Masherbrum and other famous peaks.
Meet our team at Islamabad International Airport and transfer to the hotel. After introductions, a briefing is held about the expedition and climbing strategy.
Fly to Skardu if weather permits, otherwise drive via the Karakoram Highway. Both routes provide the first introduction to the mountain landscapes of Baltistan.
Spend the day arranging climbing permits, checking equipment, and exploring Skardu town. Local markets and nearby lakes offer a glimpse of Balti culture.
A jeep ride through the Shigar and Khaplu valleys leads to Hushe, the last village before the mountains. Stay in a local guesthouse and meet the support team.
Start trekking along the Hushe Valley, crossing small streams and terraced fields. Saicho serves as a camping site for many expeditions heading towards Laila, Masherbrum, and Gondogoro La.
Continue trekking on glacial moraines and grassy patches to reach the base camp of Laila Peak. The sharp pyramid of the mountain dominates the skyline.
During these 11 days, the team establishes higher camps and prepares for the summit push. The route is steep, with snow and ice sections often reaching 55–60 degrees. Fixed ropes are set on the most difficult parts. The summit offers wide views of Masherbrum, K6, K7, and surrounding peaks. Weather and acclimatization schedules determine the exact climbing plan.
After dismantling base camp, descend back to Saicho along the same route.
Walk back to Hushe, where the team spends the night in a guesthouse. This is the last evening with porters and local staff.
Travel back by jeep to Skardu. Enjoy a well-deserved rest, fresh food, and a hot shower after weeks in the mountains.
Take the return flight to Islamabad, or drive along the Karakoram Highway in case of flight cancellation.
After debriefing with the Alpine Club of Pakistan, transfer to the airport for your international departure.
