Spantik Peak, also known as the “Golden Peak,” is one of the most beautiful 7,000 m mountains in the Karakoram, famous for its golden-orange glow at sunrise and sunset. Standing at 7,027 m, it offers climbers an ideal challenge to gain high-altitude mountaineering experience before attempting 8,000 m giants. The climb follows a gradual ridge on snow and ice, with less technical difficulty compared to K2 or Nanga Parbat. With its stunning location in Nagar Valley and views of Rakaposhi, Diran, and Malubiting, Spantik offers both a rewarding climb and an unforgettable adventure.
Arrive at Islamabad International Airport where you are greeted and transferred to the hotel. After check-in, a detailed expedition briefing takes place along with an introduction to team members. Evening free to explore Islamabad.
Take a breathtaking flight to Skardu with views of Nanga Parbat and the Karakoram giants. If weather prevents the flight, the alternate route is the Karakoram Highway, a long but scenic journey through mountain valleys.
Spend the day finalizing logistics, buying supplies, and visiting local landmarks such as Kharpocho Fort and Satpara Lake. This also gives time for altitude adjustment before heading to the mountains.
A jeep ride takes you along the Braldu River to Arandu, the last permanent village before the expedition. The road passes through rugged valleys and farmlands. Overnight camping at Arandu.
Begin the trek with a scenic walk through farmlands, meadows, and alongside rivers. The route is gradual with beautiful views of surrounding peaks. Camp at Chogo Brangsa, a traditional summer pasture.
Today’s trek takes you deeper into the valley, crossing small streams and glacial moraines. The campsite at Bolocho offers a breathtaking view of Laila Peak and other Karakoram summits.
The final approach to base camp is across moraine and glacier terrain. Base Camp is established at 4,350 m on a broad meadow, offering panoramic views of Golden Peak. This will serve as home for the climbing period.
Climbers spend these two weeks acclimatizing, carrying loads, and establishing camps.
After the summit attempt, climbers return to Base Camp for recovery, celebrations, and rest. A full day is spent organizing equipment and preparing for the return trek.
Begin the descent, retracing steps back to Bolocho. The return feels easier with lighter loads and the satisfaction of a successful climb.
Continue trekking down the valley to Arandu village. Enjoy warm hospitality of locals before departing the mountains.
Take a jeep ride back to Skardu, where hot showers, comfortable beds, and fresh meals await after weeks of camping.
A free day to rest, shop for souvenirs, or explore the scenic Skardu Valley. Optional visits include Shigar Fort or Upper Kachura Lake.
Take a flight to Islamabad if weather allows. Otherwise, return by road along the Karakoram Highway.
Transfer to the airport for international flights, marking the end of the Spantik Expedition.
